Who we are
This website belongs to Lake Land Backcountry Adventures, Cochrane, Ontario. Craig Bondy, the owner, is responsible for the personal information we hold. Questions, requests and complaints about privacy go to privacy@lakelandadventures.ca or 705-465-4920.
What we collect and why
- Inquiry form. When you send the form on the contact page, we receive your name, email, phone number, number of riders, riding experience, preferred dates, how you prefer to be contacted, your message and whether you want updates. We use it to answer you and plan your trip. The form sends it to us by email; the website itself does not store it.
- Emails and phone calls. If you email, call or text us, we keep that conversation so we can answer you and organise your tour.
- Web server logs. Like most websites, ours records each visit's IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser type. We use these only to keep the site running and secure, and they are deleted automatically after 14 days.
- Spam protection. To limit abuse, the form keeps a daily count of submissions per sender, stored as a scrambled code made from your IP address. It resets every day.
- Visitor statistics. To see which pages are useful and how people find us, we count visits with Umami, running on our own server. For each page view it records the page, the site you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and approximate location (country, region and city, worked out from your IP address). It also counts a few actions: clicks on the booking buttons, phone and email links and links to other sites, use of the photo gallery, and whether the inquiry form was started, sent or ran into an error (with the number of riders, experience level and contact preference you chose, never your name, email, phone number or message). Umami sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, and does not follow you to other websites; it shows us totals, not profiles of people. It respects your browser's "Do Not Track" setting.
We keep inquiries only as long as we need them to answer you and run your tour. We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We share it only when you ask us to (for example, with a place you will be staying) or when the law requires it.
Tour updates
We send updates about trail conditions and future tours only if you tick the box on the form or ask us to. Every update tells you who it is from and how to stop receiving them. To unsubscribe at any time, reply "unsubscribe" or write to contact@lakelandadventures.ca.
Cookies and other services
Our own pages set no cookies and use no advertising trackers. Some parts of the site come from other companies, which receive your IP address when your browser loads them:
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering on every page.
- YouTube shows the videos on the About page, and may set its own cookies there.
- Facebook sees your visit only if you follow a link to our Facebook page.
Those companies handle that information under their own privacy policies.
Where your information is kept
Our website, email and visitor statistics are hosted in Canada, by OVHcloud.
Your choices
You can ask to see the personal information we have about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted when we no longer need it, and you can withdraw your consent to updates at any time. Email privacy@lakelandadventures.ca and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
